Johan Bävman, Gällivare, Sweden

My first stop on the trip was Gällivare, was a bit tired after spending the night in sleeping accommodation with 5 others. While there I was welcomed with rain and cold wind from the mountains. I walked around in the community to get some impressions and inspiration. I was surprised there were so many people of other ethnicities. I meet Afghans, Somalis, Syrians and at lot of others, and it looked as if they all came from the same direction in the village. I crossed the bridge over the railway and I see a sign saying “The Other Side”. I crossed the river on the bridge, and the first I meet was a dozen of small white huts. It was a sad mood and an oppressive silence hagging over the huts. I tried to talk to a lonely man from Syria standing out in the rain smoking, he had been forcibly placed here while waiting for asylum.
