Normally, I work as a documentary photographer, but sometimes I have to make divergent assignments. One of these assignments was yesterday’s studio shootin´ where I was supposed to take pictures of this year’s upcoming Lucia.

In Sweden we have many traditions. One of all is when we celebrate Saint Lucia with a Lucia-procession. In the Nordic countries Lucia is a kind of beauty contest in which the winning woman is wearing white robe with a red ribbon around her waist and she and here entourage goes around and “lussar” for the citizens.

Some Lucia lingo:

Lussar = Go around and sing traditional songs. And offer saffron buns and mulled wine ( glögg ) to the audiences.

Lussebulle = A saffron wheat bun with raisins on the top.

Glögg = warm alcoholic spiced wine.

To make my nervous studio performance as painless as possible, I had to get some help from my dear colleagues in the office. Produce the perfect light against white robe with a white background isn´t the easiest.
