Knut Egil Wang did an assignment for The New Yorker in Abu Dhabi which is published in the December 19 and 26 issue. The story is about Saadiyat, an island in Abu Dhabi. Emiratis refer to Saadiyat as «the island of happiness». The construction of luxury hotels and both Guggenheim and Louvre museums raise the issues of workers´ rights. Read Negar Azimi´s letter from Abu Dhabi, «The Gulf Art War» here.

Reporting and photography for this piece were facilitated by a grant from the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting. Knut Egil Wang will be taking over Pulitzer Center´s instagram account this week: @pulitzercenter .
