Born 1955, father of three grown children, lives in Førdre, Sunnfjord, Norway. Started his photographic career in 1980. Worked on the staff of Bergens Tidene 1987-2009, whereafter he became freelance. After completing the yearlong project “Jølster” in 2008, he became more oriented towards longer projects and portraiture – especially group portraits. Oddleiv has had a number of solo exhibitions and prints bought by museums. He has been awarded with a 2nd prize in World Press Photo and twice the Picture of the Year Award in Norway. A renowned photography lecturer, and juror of numerous contests, he refers to himself as “a subjective documentary photographer”, and one who seeks what he calls “reality based absurdities” – which he often finds as results of tweaking realities or as elements of stories.
